Sekhmet--the daughter of Re--was the lion-headed goddess of the Sun, fire, plague, healing, and re-birth (among other things.) She was also the deliverer of Re's divine retribution in the form of The Eye of Re. As The Eye of Re, she was responsible for protecting Re and the order Re had created from chaos.

There is a story of Sekhmet being sent by Re to destroy a cult of Tharizdun. After killing all of the members of the cult--and drinking their blood--Sekhmet went into a blood lust, and set about destroying all of humanity. In order to stop her, Re used ground Hematite to color 7000 jugs of beer red, and placed them in Sekhmet's path. Sekhmet, mistaking the beer for blood, drank the beer until she eventually passed out, breaking the blood lust. Because of Sekhmet drinking the blood of her enemies, she is thought by some priests and scholars to be the first vampire, and for this reason she is given the name the Mother of Vampires.

Sekhmet actually has thousands of names, inspired by her many different aspects. However, two of these names are of particular importance. The first is known only to her and eight other gods of the Mulhorandi pantheon. The other is known only to Sekhmet. With these two names, Sekhmet can be unmade--as if she never existed.

The other gods feared that Sekhmet may enter a blood lust again, and this time that nothing would bring her out of it before all of humanity was destroyed. Re and the other seven gods who knew the first name came up with a plan to prevent Sekhmet from entering a blood lust. Without knowing the name known only to Sekhmet, they could not unmake her. But, with the name they knew, they devised a ceremony that would not allow her to manifest any of her aspects.

This ceremony inscribed the name known to the eight gods on the Scroll of Abandoned Souls, which caused the eight gods to forget the name that only they and Sekhmet knew. In order to keep themselves or anyone else from learning this name, the scroll was then given to the vampires of the Onyx Tower--who revered Sekhmet as their progenitor--for safe keeping.

Although she is currently banished from reality, the aspects of Sekhmet can be restored. The ceremony to restore Sekhmet and her aspects requires the Scroll of Abandoned Souls, to restore her name. A mortal that is of the line of the Pharaohs of Mulhorand (and thus of Re), who is also a descendant of an inhabitant of the Elemental Plane of Fire, who furthermore is a vampire; all of this is needed in order to capture the most prominent aspects of Sekhmet. Finally, the ceremony requires the Sun Disk of Re, an amulet that was once possessed by Sekhmet, that she used in her aspect as the Eye of Re to destroy the enemies of Re.
